What if the Library Does Not Have What I Need?

While we endeavour to provide for the most up-to-date information resources, it is not possible to stock everything.

If you don’t have access to the items you need, we will be happy to help you locate them. If the item(s) you need are not available in the Library, please let us know through our suggestion page if you think it should be added to the Library's print or online collections or contact your subject librarian.

Current research postgraduates can take advantage of access and borrowing privileges in NUIG library. You can borrow 6 items for 4 weeks and avail of online access to their electronic resources via 2 dedicated PCs located in the Library. To avail of this service you will need to apply 1 day in advance to ATU Library. We will forward your details to NUIG and you can attend NUIG the following day.

If the item is very specific to your research, please make use of our Inter-Library Loan (document supply) service, whereby you can borrow books or receive photocopies of documents that are owned by other libraries. Simply fill out the Document Supply form online. You can request 10 items at a time through this service.

What Can I Request?

  • Books
  • Journal articles
  • Newspaper articles
  • Magazine articles
  • Dissertations or theses
  • Conference proceedings
  • Technical reports
  • Standards

We do not accept requests for items available in our online or print collections.

Delivery, Lending & Renewals

Articles usually arrive at the library within ten days. Books may take a little longer depending on availability. Please take note of this delay when ordering items, and incorporate it into any time limits you may be working under.

Requestors will be notified by e-mail or telephone according to the details submitted on the request form. Items will be held behind the desk of your home library to be picked up within 5 days. If the item is not picked up after this time and no other arrangements have been made then it will be returned to the lending library.

The loan period for books and other returnable material is determined by the lending library and is usually 2 to 4 weeks.

The lending library may recall an item – in this case the item may not be renewed. Requests for renewal may be considered and must be made in advance of the due date by contacting the inter-library loans contact at your campus library.

It is the responsibility of the borrower to ensure that the item is returned to the library by the due date.
