Use our Click and Collect service to place a hold on an item and collect later.

Submit Requests

This service allows registered staff and students of GMIT to place online requests for print books and other library items.

How to place a hold on an item and collect it later:

  1. Login to your Library Account.
  2. Browse the online library and place a request on the item(s) you require.
  3. Click the 'Place Hold' button below the item you wish to request.
  4. Select the pickup location or your campus of study i.e. Galway, CCAM. Mayo or Letterfrack library. 
  5. You will receive an email letting you know when the item is ready to collect.
  6. Collect from the designated point in your campus library. They will be filed under your name.
  7. Items will be checked out onto your account, please bring your GMIT ID card with you.


Books will be held for 3 days. Uncollected books will be returned to their locations within the Library after this period.

Normal borrowing limits will apply. Books must be returned once loan limits and loan periods have been reached. Holds cannot be fulfilled if there are overdue items on your account.

What material is available to request?

Only loanable books and other library items such as DVD’s are available for borrowing. Non-loanable items such as theses, reference material, maps, etc. must be consulted in the library. You must book a seat in the library to consult non-loanable material.

Items which are located on Desk Reserve cannot be requested but you can use the Scan & Deliver service to request a chapter from High Demand items.

Remember to check the number of loans already listed on your library account. If you have maximised your loan limit you will need to return some items before collecting other items.

Who can avail of this service?

All registered GMIT students and staff (with a current G number) can avail of this free service.

You can only collect requests in your name and you must have your GMIT ID card to collect requests.

How long will it take to fulfil my request?

Every effort will be made to fulfil your request as soon as possible but delays may occur due to high demand and the necessity to quarantine returned books.

How will I know when my request is ready for collection?

We will send you an email when your book is ready for collection. This email will detail the 3 day period in which you can visit your campus library to collect your item(s).

How do I return material to the library?

During the Covid-19 pandemic library material should be returned to the 'Book Return' box located outside each campus library.

Material is removed from this box daily and the books removed from users' accounts and placed in quarantine.
