This module introduces initial teachers to theories of learning, sociological perspectives on education, classroom management and teaching strategies, debates in relation to technology and education, and current issues in Irish education.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module the learner will/should be able to;
1. Demonstrate knowledge of foundational psychological theories relating to how children learn, including debates from various psychological perspectives and theories of memory and motivation
2. Explain the origin of sociology, outline various sociological perspectives and themes, and provide an account of the sociology of education, including its relevance for teaching
3. Provide a comprehensive account of the theory of classroom management, including behavioural management, and develop a classroom management plan
4. Apply foundational Numeracy, Literacy, Oracy and Graphicacy strategies to teaching
5. Show how to integrate Differentiation strategies into teaching and learning (intercultural, gender, mixed ability and SEN)
6. Identify key areas of Child Care legislation and practice relevant to post-primary schools
7. Debate relevant topics in relation to the effectiveness of educational technology
